VOTING BY MAIL

How to vote by mail in GA

Registered voters need to complete the application for GA official Absentee Ballot and mail it to your county’s Board of Registrars.

There are four ways to get the absentee ballot application

Call your county Registrar’s office and have the form mailed to you or pick it up at the Registrar’s office

After you receive the application

  1. Carefully read the directions, completely the form, then sign by hand and date it
  2. Mail the form back to your county Board of Registrars or deliver in person
  3. Postage is required when mailing your application

You should file your application ASAP  you must allow for mail delivery and any problems with your application

The absentee ballot application must be submitted by May 13 for the May general primary election and June 10 2022 for the June general primary runoff.

TIPS FOR USING THE MAIL TO VOTE

START NOW.  Request your absentee ballot early. Contact your county board of registrars to receive your absentee ballot application

  1. Do not delay mailing the ballot.  The earlier the better. Your ballot must be received by your county registrar by close of polls on Election day May 24 (runoff June 21)  mail your ballot at least 7 days before this date.
  2. Return address.  Always have the return address on what you mail.  If your mail cannot be delivered the Post office will return it to you
  3. Pay postage.  Your election mail is first class mail is charged first class postage.  You must pay the required postage at time of mailing.  It is recommended you take your ballot envelope to the Post Office and have a clerk weight assess proper postage, post and accept the mail , especially if you are going to use Extra Services like Certified Mail.First class postage is assessed as follows

    1 oz $0.58
    2 oz $0.78
    3 oz  $0.98
    3.5 oz $1.18

  4. Deposit your ballot into the mail.  You can mail your ballot at any Post Office (recommended).  You can deposit your ballot in USPS Collection Boxes.  If you deposit the mail after collection time, the mail will be picked up and postmarked the next day. You can have the ballot picked up from your residential mailbox.  It will be postmarked on the day of actual collection by the carrier.
  5. Tracking Mail you sent.  The USPS offers several extra services you can use to track and verify your mailing.  These are not required to be used.  First-Class postage alone will get your ballot or application to the election office.  Extra services include Certified Mail, Registered Mail, Certificate of Mailing and return Receipt.
  6. Tracking Mail You will Receive.  The USPS offers a free email service that lets you know what letter mail is coming in the next few days.  The email includes a digital image of each letter.  Sign-up for this free service.
